EVERYBODY PRAYS
Everybody prays to someone, everybody
prays to someone
Whether it's a god or a thought or a woman or something else
Roadside, girl guide, little on
the brown side
Waiting for her Daddy who's arriving in a Caddie
But he don't turn up 'cos he got caught up
In the maelstrom, bedlum, someone used a bad bomb
Doesn't matter that he faces Mecca everyday
'Cos so do his killers and it's happening again
White man, soldier man, standing
in a strange land
Looking for a hitman with a rifle and a qur'an
So he takes good aim and the loner does the same
But he lost sight, shoots wide, plants it in a small child
Nobody really cares when you're shooting other men
But hey, that's another virgin and it's happening again
Everybody prays to someone (everybody
prays), everybody prays to someone
Whether it's a god or a thought or a woman or something else (everybody prays)
Everybody prays to someone (everybody prays), everybody prays to someone
Whether it's a church or a book or a river or something else (everybody prays)
Well, worldwide sense-slide, everybody
takes sides
Search for a solution to this cultural pollution
But it's all the same, gonna dish the blame
On someone, anyone, other than my son
I would gladly take a bullet in the absence of a pen
Just so long as it is worth it, and it's happening again
Everybody prays to someone (everybody
prays), everybody prays to someone
Whether it's a god or a thought or a woman or something else (everybody prays)
Everybody prays to someone (everybody prays), everybody prays to someone
Whether it's a church or a book or a river or something else (everybody prays)
I could change the whole damn world
if I tried but you have to hear what I'm saying
Forget about your cause and your race and your pride, and it's happening again
Whitehouse, lighthouse, might as
well be my house
They're looking for the leader of the dreaded al qaeda
They invade the place, and while they punish his race
He's sending orders from his cave trying to put me in my grave
And I won't find sympathy behind the door of number ten
'Cos there isn't any there, and it's happening again
Everybody prays to someone (everybody
prays), everybody prays to someone
Whether it's a god or a thought or a woman or something else (everybody prays)
Everybody prays to someone (oh yeah everybody prays), everybody prays to someone
Whether it's a church or a book or a mosque or a river
Or a mountain or a statue or the sun or the moon
Or a god or a thought or a woman or something else (everybody prays)
Everybody prays, everybody prays
Everybody prays, everybody prays

BLACK CLOUD
She smiles and the light from a
hundred-thousand stars breaks through the sky
And regardless of the fact this never happens you fail to question why
We learn from an age that the universe depends on parity
For every ray of light there's a cloud festooned with my name
Nobody should be as happy as me
There's a black cloud hanging over
my head
There's a bad day waiting up ahead
There's a full moon and the sky's turning red
I can't talk now there's a black cloud over my...
Head down to the quay where a hundred
different trysts play through the night
And promises are shared like secret kisses beneath the failing light
A man is wise when he utilises good periphery
And he cultivates an empathy for his territory
My eyes only see what's in front of me, and there's a...
Black cloud hanging over my head
There's a bad day waiting up ahead
There's a full moon and the sky's turning red
I can't talk now there's a black cloud over my head
The silver lining's been torn out
and melted down
I can feel the weight of the sky bearing down on me
And there's a black cloud
Black cloud hanging over my head
There's a bad day waiting up ahead
There's a full moon and the sky's turning red
I can't talk now there's a black cloud over my head
Black cloud

BRIGHTON ROCK
Oh, but would the wheels go faster
Drive past Hayling to our English dream
Unroll the rug to lie upon, uncork and pour the Sauvignon
Midnight ride at the seaside
Tell me when you get to Brighton
Where the mainland meets la mer
Tell me when you get to Brighton
And I'll see you there
Oh, the night is so romantic
In the halo of the sparkling pier
But the rocks are hard beneath the knees, on my back I can feel the breeze
Vertical smile at the Royal Mile
Tell me when you get to Brighton
Where the mainland meets la mer
Tell me when you get to Brighton
And I'll see you there
Tell me when you get to Brighton
Where the mainland meets la mer
Tell me when you get to Brighton
And I'll see you there

I CAN EXPLAIN
Broke your heart, and danced over
your grave
I can explain, I can explain myself
Lost your trust, and laughed into your face
I can explain, I can explain myself
Broke my word and yawned while
you complained
I can explain, I can explain myself, I can explain myself
And the tears begin to bathe your
face
And I remember who you are
Sold your soul and trashed all
of your things
I can explain, I can explain myself, I can explain myself
And the tears begin to bathe your
face
And I remember who you are to me
Broke your heart, and danced over
your grave
I can explain, I can explain myself, I can explain myself

AS BIG AS MY LOVE
Tonight I'm a driver and I will
follow the road where she flies
But my mind's somewhere else now, I'd rather look in your eyes
But the night gives me comfort and it seems now matter how hard I try
I'm transfixed by its beauty as it will fill the sky, fill the sky
Tonight the moon is as big as
my love for you
And it will paint all the sky in a steely blue
Just like the blue that I get when I'm not with you
And so the best thing to do is to be with you
Tonight I'm a singer and I'll perform
to a modest few
But my songs have no meaning, I want to sing them to you
But I must do my duty so I will work 'til the night is through
As I'm travelling homeward I can't help but see the vies, see the view
Tonight the moon is as big as my
love for you
And it will paint all the sky in a steely blue
Just like the blue that I get when I'm not with you
And so the best thing to do is to be with you
Tonight I'm a writer as such I
will choose how the story ends
In the opening chapter I want to be your best friend
In exotic locations you will behave as the author intends
But there'll be no denouement, this love will never end, never end
Tonight the moon is as big as my
love for you
And it will paint all the sky in a steely blue
Just like the blue that I get when I'm not with you
And so the best thing to do is to be with you
Tonight the moon is as big as my
love for you
And it will paint all the sky in a steely blue
Just like the blue that I get when I'm not with you
And so the best thing to do is to be with you

LIKE I REALLY CARE
It's no real felony when looked
at through the eyes of the law
But these days I'm not so sure that I can be myself anymore
I've strong intelligence that somewhere down the line there's a mess
I've never liked to travel backwards on a moving express
The signals are down
My logic is found, it's simple psychology
My tongue rolls around making a sound like an apology
Like I really care
My dreams are time machines and
take me to a time when I cared
If love is giving how come misery is all that you shared
If life's an open road then you've changed all the signals to red
My world's a tapestry but you've been pulling hard at the thread
The work is unwound
My logic is found, it's simple psychology
My tongue rolls around making a sound like an apology
Like I really care
I learned some time ago that what
you mean is not what you say
I saw the wrecking ball but couldn't quite get out of the way
My body's aground
My logic is found, it's simple psychology
My tongue rolls around making a sound like an apology
Like I really care

SIGNS
There are signs on the windows,
there are signs in the hall
There are signs on the pavement but I don't know what they're for
I can't find my way, I can't find my way
There are signs to the left, there
are signs on the right
They surround me in the morning and they keep me up at night
I can't find my way, I can't find my way
So tear them up and throw them
away
Take my hand and won't you show me the way
There are signs in the closet,
there are signs on the floor
And they point in each direction but I still need some more
I can't find my way, I can't find my way
There are signs on my shoulders,
on my arms there are more
And there's one on my finger but I don't know what it's for
I can't find my way, I can't find my way
So tear them up and throw them
away
Take my hand and won't you show me the way
Sat-nav's gone crazy 'cos all the
ways he can go, so it's not just me
This way and that way, up, down and sideways, as far as I can see
There are signs on the ceiling,
there are signs on the floor
There's even one in the icebox but I can't take no more
I can't find my way, I can't find my way
So tear them up and throw them
away
Take my hand and won't you show me the way

ST. PATRICK'S DAY
Oh, the day planted hope in my
soul with its first kiss of spring
But I thought that my Nokia had died 'til it started to ring
Was a short distance call that delivered me straight to my knees
She said our mutual acquaintance was back from the southern seas
Oh, the games that we play
When I just had to say
Oh, my life went a different way on St. Patrick's day
I put on my favourite shirt and
I started to stroll
And I casually walked in the bar like a man in control
But she looked for the world like the first girl a schoolboy had seen
So I sat like that boy in my quiet feeling emerald-green
Oh, the games that we play
When I just had to say
Oh, my life went a different way on St. Patrick's day
Our mutual acquaintance announced
he had something to share
When you two are in the same room there are sparks in the air
And so it was set but it never was part of a plan
And I swear nothing happened that night but that's when it began
Oh, the games that we play
When I just had to say
Oh, my life went a different way on St. Patrick's day
And there's nothing more I need to say
Oh, my life went a different way on St. Patrick's day

THE LANGLEY ROOMS
Our Bella was a local treasure
with a smile and a minute for those who sought advice
But she never really understood the deal
Her fella was a man of liesure 'til he went and he got his fingers caught
in a vice
Now he serves at her majesty's pleasure making gifts for the local orphan's
appeal
And it's the only life they know
Down at the Langley rooms
There's a sound in the air, the platitudes of misfortune
Yeah, there's a sense of despair they are courting
Down at the Langley rooms, oh, they'll say life isn't fair 'cos they're born
to, down at the Langley rooms
Ludmila was a social pillar since
she fled with her life from her little Baltic state
She thanked God for the safety of this land
Her killer was at large until a year's wage was offered to quickly seal his
fate
It's one less on the street but it's still a wild place and you take your
life in your hands
But it's the only life they know
Down at the Langley rooms
There's a sound in the air, the platitudes of misfortune
Yeah, there's a sense of despair they are courting
Down at the Langley rooms, oh, they'll say life isn't fair 'cos they're born
to, down at the Langley rooms
And it won't be long 'til you're
singing the same song
And you have no choice, just so much you can do
Down at the Langley rooms
There's a sound in the air, the platitudes of misfortune
Yeah, there's a sense of despair they are courting
Down at the Langley rooms, yeah, they'll say life isn't fair 'cos they're
born to, down at the Langley rooms
Oh, there's a sound in the air, the platitudes of misfortune
Yeah, there's a sense of despair they are courting
Down at the Langley rooms, oh, they'll say life isn't fair 'cos they're born
to, down at the Langley rooms
Oh, down at the Langley rooms, oh.

ALIVE
Look at me now, look through my
eyes
There's a universe to behold
Look over my brow, up to the skies
See the sunshine cut through the cold
And I feel so alive, my moment's
arrived
I hear every beat of my heart
I see everything, I could be king
If I felt like this from the start
But it used to be cold, it used
to be bleak
There were monsters under the bed
The colours were stark, where once they were weak
There's a spectral glory instead
And I feel so alive, my moment's
arrived
I hear every beat of my heart
I see everything, I could be king
If I felt like this from the start
And I feel so alive, my moment's
arrived
I hear every beat of my heart
I see everything, I could be king
If I felt like this from the start
Look at me now, look at my smile
There's a happiness to embrace
I'm wondering how, after so many miles
There's a willingness on my face
And I feel so alive, my moment's
arrived
I hear every beat of my heart
I see everything, I could be king
If I felt like this from the start
And I feel so alive, my moment's
arrived
I hear every beat of my heart
I see everything, I could be king
If I felt like this from the start

SOMETHING ON MY MIND
Sunrise in your eyes moves me
Up all night, your very sight consumes me
There is so much I have to do
But I think you'll find there's something on my mind
Your hair, so fair on my fingers
Your scent, heaven-sent and it lingers
There is so much I have to
But I think you'll find there's something on my mind
You run around and around my head
'Til I have to set you free
But you're still there lying on my bed as far as I can see
Smash and grab, like a stab in
the heart dear
Now we've met, cannot let you depart dear
There is so much I have to do
But I think you'll find there's something on my mind
I think you'll find there's something on my mind
